At the end of the week before last, I was very pleased to receive a message from Kaz at The Arts & Crafts Emoporium on Facebook telling me that I had been voted into their exclusive guild of artisans.

What’s it all about then?
Well, the Arts and Crafts Emporium is a group of talented artistans who create pieces of work for Facebook users to buy in one of the monthly themes. In their own words, ‘The Emporium is a cave of wonders of everything arts and crafts’ and they encourage you to wander through the themes and be tempted by the unique nature of the artwork created.

There are all manner of artisans from all types of creative disciplines. There are painters, sketch artists, watercolour artists, jewellers, a pyrographer and now there is a woodturner. Me!

Each month the artists are given a theme to work towards for the exhibition on the first Sunday of the month. They can post pictures of works in progress and regularly post on the emporiums wall, so it is an ideal place to meet the artists and see what they are getting up to. So far, I have found it a great place to meet people and see some of the tremendous work they produce each month.

In recent months, the guild members have exhibited and sold items in the themes of ‘Into the Woods’, ‘Beautiful Bug Ball’ and ‘Winter Wonderland.’

What does it mean to me?
I’ve always been creative, and never really rated my work. I am probably too much of a perfectionist to appreciate that people really do like what I create, but hey! I guess people really do like what I do…and that is a good thing. It gives me a chance to meet artists from all over the country, chat to them and see what they get up to. Also, it means that fans of the page can chat to me and the other artists about our work and maybe even pick-up a commission or two. Plus it gives my wood turning creations a greater audience, and  therefore a chance for it to sold, which is always nice. you have to agree.
