From the huge amount of wood I was given recently, I turned some of it into bowl blanks earlier this week, and today I fancied turning something with some colour in it…so I chose a 10″ piece of cherry and decided to add some more colour to it.
This is a bit of an experimental piece as it was still wet at the time of turning. I’ve not seen anyone adding spirit stains to wet wood, so I thought I’d give it a go. The whole process took a good couple of hours, and the video below shows the main detail. Pictures are beneath it.
This piece is not currently for sale as I am going to monitor it as it dries out to see if there any checking of cracking occurs. Also, when it is dry, I can finish it properly if it not too warped and I can mount it back on the lathe successfully.
