Purple Heart is a gorgeous wood, although I find it to be a bit temperamental. How did I get on in this week’s project?
To be honest, I quite like this piece! There are some things I could pick it up on, but for fear of getting in trouble for being too much of a perfectionist, I’ll run with it!
Start from a 10″ blank, the final piece is about 9.5″ across and a shave under 2″ deep. It has a very wide rim as you can see, to accommodate the bold design on the top. The bowl part itself is a near perfect semicircle which I am really rather pleased with!
For the design on the top, I drew some lines freehand and then filled in the large gaps with a super hot pyrography pen. The piece was inspired by the amazing work of Douglas J. Fisher, a Canadian turner and artist. Find out more about him here.
Can you guess why I’ve decided to call it ‘7200’?
Thanks for reading and watching,
