Big Changes: New Workshop, New Tool Range and More News

Coming up, there are some big changes that will hopefully excite you, and one that you’ll groan at.

It’s been an incredible two and a quarter years since I first popped onto the woodturning scene. From one of my very first pens being video’d and plopped onto YouTube, I could not have imagined that I would be in this position today. And for that, I have to thank each and every one of my customers, followers and subscribers.

But this post isn’t about thanking everyone – I thank everyone pretty much every week on YouTube! But thank you again!

This post is about some big changes that are coming soon. Firstly, here’s a new build workshop, if you haven’t seen it already.

The Black Dog Workshop

I’ve been thinking about a workshop where I can reach and teach more people woodturning and the benfits of it. And now, the time has come.

By the beginning of December, The Black Dog Workshop will be (or virtually will be) open for business.

A multi-lathe workshop with a ‘prime directive’ of encouraging self confidence and sense of achievement through woodturning, particularly in those suffering from depression and other mental health problems.

There will also be full-on membership opportunities too with lathe time and tool hire available for those without access to a lathe, can’t afford one, or those who can turn but don’t have have a lathe yet. It’s a bit like a club, but not. A social place to come? Yes. Run by a committee with meetings, politics and stuff? No. It’s about turning!

There are more details on the Black Dog Workshop here, the Facebook page and the YouTube Channel. Please like and follow them, it’s a busy busy time at the moment!

WorkshopsWorkshops and Tuition

As there is a smart, new (centrally heated!) workshop environment using tip-top kit and high-end technology, my workshops and tuition will take place at The Black Dog Workshop rather than in my garage! The Black Dog website will have an online ‘live’ booking system, so you can check availability and dates of workshops months in advance.

Again, with the new workshop, my videos will all be filmed in the new workshop using a new camera set-up which I hope will up the quality of the videos that I produce.

I am currently very behind with video projects, but have some super projects lined up for the new workshop and production environment.

ALLthreeHampshire Sheen and Robert Sorby

Hampshire Sheen has been temporarily withdrawn from sale from this website whilst I get the new workshop up and running. This is to save long delays in dispatching orders, nothing else. You can still order from Oliver’s Woodturning and Taylors Mirfield.

I have recently become a trade customer of Robert Sorby tools and am pleased to soon be offering a small (initially) collection of Sorby tools.

and finally, the groan……

Value Added Tax

Although I am below the VAT threshold by some considerable distance, I have recently invested a considerable amount of money in Hampshire Sheen and also the Black Dog Workshop, and it would be beneficial to become registered for VAT. So, from 1st November 2016, all prices will be rising a little. I have some room to play with the prices you pay, and will do my best to absorb as much of the VAT cost to you as possible.

So, The Future Is Very Exciting

I said it at the beginning, but I really can’t believe what has happened and how ‘far’ my turning has taken in the past couple of years. It is such an exciting time, and I hope you will continue to follow the journey. Such an exciting and interesting time lies ahead for both myself, my turning and the new workshop.

As always, if you have any queries, please let me know.

Thanks for reading and watching,
