Turning your first bowl flying solo can be a daunting task. In this demonstration, I’ll take you step-by-step through the process I use for the majority of my bowl turning.

It is also the technique I use to teach newcomers to woodturning here in the workshop. We’ll look at safety, tools, wood selection for learning with, basic chucking methods, techniques, tools and their presentation shape and attention to the detail. To be as ‘authentic’ as possible for newcomers, I will be using a standard set of tools found in an entry level box available from a variety of suppliers.

We won’t be looking at sanding and finishing in this demonstration as there are likely to be many questions as we go through the project. I’ll sort out a basic sanding and finishing demonstration for later.

I’d love to know what you think of my demonstrations. If you’d like to, please leave a note on my testimonials page here: https://msabansmith.com/add-testimonial/ – Thank you.
